On October 31, 2017, Halloween turned into a nightmare when a terrorist ran his truck on people on a popular bike-only path in lower Manhattan, killing 9 people. The attacker, who was identified as Sayfullo Saipov, a 29-year-old immigrant from Uzbekistan, shouted Allahu Akbar as he carried out the attack. The attacker was later killed by the police. Bill de Blasio, the Mayor of New York City, described the incident as an act of terror. 12 people were injured in the attack. Among those who died, five people were from Argentina, two from the United States and one from Belgium.
