Mexico Earthquake, 19 September 2017

On September 19, Mexico was rocked by a 7.1 magnitude earthquake. The earthquake killed a total of 370 people. Of these, 228 deaths were reported in Mexico City alone. The rest of the deaths were reported in the state of Morelos, Puebla, and the State of Mexico. More than 6,000 people were injured in the quake which resulted in strong shaking for around 20 seconds. More than 44 buildings were destroyed in the earthquake in Mexico City. The worst affected neighborhoods included Condesa, Roma and del Valle. Apart from damage to buildings, the earthquake also caused power outages. The epicenter of the earthquake was around 34 miles south of Puebla and it occurred on the 32nd anniversary of the 1985 Mexico City earthquake in which approximately 10,000 people were killed.
