Hurricane Irma was a powerful hurricane which was observed in the Atlantic. The hurricane formed on August 30, 2017, and dissipated on September 16, 2017. Irma is the first category 5 hurricane to hit the Leeward Islands. It is also the first major hurricane to make landfall in the US state of Florida since Wilma, which struck in 2005. Irma was a devastating hurricane and caused massive damages in the Florida Keys and the northeastern Caribbean. Hurricane Irma claimed 134 lives. Of these, 90 deaths were reported in the contiguous United States. Other regions which reported casualties were Anguilla, Barbados, Barbuda, British Virgin Islands, Cuba, French West Indies, Haiti, Puerto Rico, Sint Maarten, US Virgin Islands, etc. The fourth costliest hurricane, Irma has caused economic damages of around $62.87 billion.
