Princess Kate and Prince William celebrated the birth of a baby girl on May 2. The little princess was born at London’s St. Mary’s Hospital, hours after Kate arrived at the private Lindo Wing. Days later the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge named their new baby Princess Charlotte, continuing a long-standing Royal tradition. Charlotte weighed a healthy 8 lbs., 3oz at birth. In a sign of the times, the Kensington Palace announced the happy news on Twitter, saying: “Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a daughter at 8.34 a.m. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.” In a series of tweets, the palace added: “The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news.” The medical team who had delivered Prince George at the same hospital in July 2013, delivered his sister as well. Charlotte is the fourth in line of succession after Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince George. She is the first princess born into the monarchy in 25 years. The last one was Prince Andrew’s daughter Princess Eugenie in 1990.
