The exchange of fire between Israel & Palestine is not a new phenomenon. The conflict dates back to the year 2004 when a series of battles was fought between the Israel Defense Forces and Palestinian militants. It carried on with severe intensity for nearly one decade with some occasional ceasefire from both ends. Year 2014 was not an exception. The ceasefire ended when bodies of three missing Israeli teenagers were found in West Bank in June. The two went to war that killed 1777 Palestinians and 68 Israelis..

The backdrop was not at all of war when 3 students - Eyal Yifrah, Gilad Shaar and Naftali Frenkel were kidnapped on June 12 and killed in West Bank.. Although Hamas denied any role in the incident,Israel was confident that they were behind t this attack. In a sign of retaliation, Israel arrested more than 300 Palestinians known for supporting Hamas. It escalated the war once again between the two causing more casualties in the process.

Israel responded with heavy bombings in Gaza Strip and the Hamas continued to launch offensives. After the death of 3 Israeli students, a 16-year-old Palestinian, Md. Abu was burnt to death and Hamas propagated it as a revenge killing by the Israel. A fresh set of violence started with hundreds of casualties.

Contrary to the massive air attacks launched earlier, Israel focused on destroying all the Hamas-made tunnels connecting Gaza and Israel. History witnessed another bloodbath and most Gazans fled the conflict zone, resulting in the end of a 51-day war.

As per the latest reports, both Israel and Hamas are in a discussion to stop the violence going on for years.. Egypt is playing the mediator in the bilateral talks with a hope that some solution emerges out of this.
