White House reveals beer recipes

The White House has revealed the secret recipes for President Barack Obama's homemade beers after succumbing to pressure spurred by an Internet campaign.

It is believed to be the first ever beer brewed at the White House with the key ingredient of honey being sourced from the official residence's first ever beehive.

Details of the White House Honey Brown Ale and the White House Honey Porter were released in a blog by Sam Kass, one of Obama's chefs.

"With public excitement about the White House beer fermenting such a buzz, we decided we better hop right to it," he quipped.

He said Ale To The Chief was the first alcohol to brewed or distilled on the White House grounds.

"George Washington brewed beer and distilled whiskey at Mount Vernon and Thomas Jefferson made wine, but there's no evidence that any beer has been brewed in the White House…Inspired by home brewers from across the country, last year President Obama bought a home brewing kit for the kitchen.”

The announcement was made as the presidential race against Republican rival Mitt Romney enters the final two months.

With the candidates running neck and neck in the opinion polls, political pundits suggest that both men are trying to win over the working class vote and revealing the recipes could be part of Obama's campaign efforts to depict him as a regular guy who enjoys a beer.
