Romney has first U.S. intelligence briefing

Mitt Romney received his first intelligence briefing from President Barack Obama's administration on Monday, a tradition of the final stages of a general election campaign for presidential candidates, regardless of which party is in power.

The former Massachusetts governor was briefed at a federal building in Los Angeles for nearly two hours.

Romney's briefing was likely to be dominated by events in the Middle East after four Americans were killed last week in an anti-American protest in Libya following the release of a U.S.-produced film that mocks Islam.

Romney's vice presidential running mate, Paul Ryan, will also receive regular intelligence briefings.
