Romney gears up for debates against Obama

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is undergoing "intensive" training for the three upcoming debates against his rival Democratic President Barack Obama, according to his aides.

Romney, who spent Labor Day on his boat in New Hampshire while Obama was campaigning in swing states, is spending most of the week in Woodstock, Vermont.

Senior Romney campaign adviser Kevin Madden said the former Massachusetts governor is preparing at the home of Kerry Healey, who was Massachusetts' lieutenant governor when Romney was governor from 2003 to 2007.

Romney is likely to return to campaigning by the end of the week.

For now, his focus remains on the three October debates, which he began preparing for in June.

Romney is preparing with Ohio Senator Rob Portman, a fellow Republican who is standing in for Obama during the practice sessions.

The sessions begin with an hour long mock debate, with campaign aide Peter Flaherty playing the role of moderator.

Romney and his advisers then analyze the session, break for lunch and continue with another hour long debate.

There will be three presidential debates ahead of the November 6 elections. One will be a vice presidential debate between Romney’s running mate Paul Ryan and Vice President Joe Biden, the other two will be between Obama and Romney.
