Paul Ryan kick-starts VP debate prep in Oregon

Republican vice-presidential candidate Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan kicked off his first full day of debate preparations on Sunday.

According to campaign representatives, Ryan has been practicing in a remote part of Oregon with a small group of advisers and aides for the “first of many sessions” ahead of the October 11 debate with Vice President Joe Biden.

“Vice President Joe Biden served over 30 years in the United States Senate; he has run for president twice and has served as vice president for the past four years. He is one of the most experienced debaters in American political life and we definitely don’t take the challenge lightly,” an adviser said.

The stand-in for Biden has not yet been publically announced. Though in an interview on Fox News last week, Ryan said the person would be announced “shortly.”

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney spent several days last week carrying out his own debate preparation in Woodstock, Vermont.

Ohio Senator Rob Portman will play President Barack Obama in the mock debate.
