2016 Presidential Election

US Election Updates - November 5, 2012

Palin donated $5000 to Romney camp

Newly released campaign finance reports have revealed that Sarah Palin’s political fund donated $5,000 to Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign.

The former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee is normally known to make splashy endorsements.

However, the donation made on Wednesday by SarahPAC was made without announcement and buried amid hundreds of pages of donations disclosed to the Federal Election Commission (FEC).

Palin declined to make an endorsement during the presidential primaries spurring speculation she might enter the race.

Even after Romney secured the Republican nomination, Palin continued to withhold her endorsement.

It was only after Romney chose Wisconsin Representative Paul Ryan to be his running mate that Palin posted a statement on her Facebook praising Ryan and slating President Barack Obama.

Many viewed the statement as an endorsement though she did not use the word “endorse” in the 1,175-word statement, which focused mainly on Democratic incumbent.

Palin’s PAC collected $4.7 million in the 2012 election cycle, according to its most recent filing with the FEC.

The filings show the PAC has not made a significant number of donations. It donated $80,000 to Republican candidates for Congress during the period, making up for about 1.7 percent of the money raised.
