Obama plans election night rally in Chicago convention center

President Barack Obama has planned to hold an election night rally at the McCormick Place convention center in Chicago, campaign and city officials said on Wednesday.

The event is likely to draw thousands of supporters hoping for what will be a second term for Obama in the White House.

Supporters are expected to watch the poll results come in and then listen to a speech by the Democratic incumbent who faces Republican Mitt Romney, a former Massachusetts governor, in the November 6 election.

Some 240,000 gathered in Chicago's Grant Park on the night Obama beat John McCain in 2008 to become the first black U.S. president.
