Obama extends lead in Reuters/Ipsos poll

President Barack Obama has extended his marginal lead over Republican rival Mitt Romney among likely voters in a race that remains statistically tied eight days before the election, according to a Reuters/Ipsos tracking poll released on Sunday.

Obama has a 49 percent to 46 percent lead over Romney, marking a 1 point increase from Saturday.

Swings are still possible in the remaining days of the campaign as 15 percent of registered voters say they could still change their minds and vote for a different candidate.

Meanwhile, in other developments on Sunday, Romney received the endorsement of Iowa's biggest newspaper, the Des Moines Register, which has not backed a Republican since 1972. He also won the endorsement of newspapers in Richmond and Cincinnati.

Obama won the endorsement of newspapers in Miami, Detroit and Toledo, Ohio, as well as The New York Times.
