New Jersey residents displaced by Sandy allowed to vote by email

New Jersey residents displaced by superstorm Sandy have been allowed by state authorities to vote by email or fax.

Officials said residents must submit a mail-in ballot application by fax or email to the local county clerk.

Once the request is received, a ballot will be emailed or faxed back. Ballots must be returned no later than 8pm EST on Tuesday.

The applications can be downloaded on the state's website.

Officials added that electronic voting was also an option for first responders working in the aftermath of the storm.

The option is already open to New Jersey voters living overseas and those serving in the military.
