Investigation launched into rapper Wyclef Jean's charity money for Haiti

A probe has been launched to look into the money raised by rapper Wyclef Jean for victims of the Haiti earthquake.

The former Fugees star started a campaign after 230,000 people lost their lives in the 2010 disaster.

It has been estimated the 42-year-old rapper, who was born in the country, helped raise millions of dollars for the Yele Haiti charity.

However, Yele Haiti folded this summer raising questions over how the funds were spent.

According to a report in the New York Times, a large amount was spent on luxury travel, offices and food.

In response to the claims, Jean posted images of himself and charity workers in Haiti on his official Facebook page.

Shortly after the 2010 earthquake, Jean unsuccessfully bid to become Haiti's president.

It was rejected as the Haitian constitution requires candidates to have lived in the country for five years prior to an election.
