Naqada City Map

Naqada is in reality a necropolis in Egypt that comprises several burials since the pre-historic era. It lies on the western bank of the River Nile.Like most other cities in Egypt, Naqada is also a city of major historical significance.
The desolated monasteries that are located close to this city deserve special mention.

Being the resting land since ancient times, the city is also a popular tourist destination in the country. Naqada was said to be the burial ground of Nubt town and was devoted to the God Set. There are some people who think that Set was born in the region of Naqada and was associated with the kingship since the early dynastic period.

Tourists must explore the city in order to get an idea about the Egyptian beliefs and culture. Some of the most noted thirteenth century churches and monasteries that were built near Naqada are:
  • Churches of Saint Mercurius
  • Churches of Saint George and Saint Victor
  • Churches of Saint Theodore

Apart from the above-mentioned churches, the others include the Saint John Church and the Saint Shenute Church. Moreover, there were also the monasteries of Saint Theodore and Saint Nub. Presently, the monasteries of this region are situated at the edge of the desert.
