Durunka is a town that is located at a distance of about 6 miles from Asyut in Egypt. Tourists can visit this town while traveling to Egypt. At one point of time, this city was under the rule of the Coptics. The constructions were made during that period.
The population of Durunka mainly comprises the native Christians of Egypt who are also known as the Coptics. Tourists can also meet the monks and nuns of the monasteries. This city has become almost a pilgrim center for the Christians. A Moulid of holy Virgin is held in the city of Durunka.
Many devout Christians come to attend this holy occasion and parades are arranged. This city is considered to be a residing place of Saint John of Lycopolis. The other churches located in this city, have been built in the memory of saints like Moncurius, Athanasius, Claudius, Saint John the Baptist and Philotas.
