Important Information about Ibarra

Ibarra, which was initially a colonial city, is located at a distance of 115km from Quito, the capital of Ecuador. This city is inhabited by 140,000 people. It is a famous tourist destination mainly because of its cool climatic conditions. As Ibarra has been under the colonial rule of Spain, the houses and monuments that can be seen around the city are built much in tune with the colonial style. Most of the buildings and houses are painted in white. This is the reason behind Ibarra being called the "White City" of Ecuador. Fiesta de los Lagos is the main festival of Ibarra, which is celebrated with great enthusiasm and joy in the last weekend of September.
