Archaeological excavations have shown that Middlefart was already a site for civilization during the prehistoric ages. Signs of royalty can be found in the place from the middle ages when the royal castle of Hindsgavl was established here by Danish king Menved. The castle has ever since exchanged possession, passing onto King Valdemar IV in the 14 th century. The original castle, however, is no more being engulfed by a fierce storm in 1694 but the site has been preserved by building a mansion in its place. Dolphin hunt became a popular sport and profession of the people here during the 1500's.
Beside the Hindsgavl mansion, the other beautiful tourist sights of Middlefart are:
St. Nicholas church : the church was built by the harbor of Middelfart in true Romanesque style around the 12 th century. The wonderful architecture of the pulpit, the font which was designed by Hermann Wilhelm Bissen and the baroque style altar makes the church especially appealing to the people. Another wonderful tourist attraction of the place is the Middlefart museum.
