Koge Map

Koge is an old port with a notable industrial hub and is located south of Copenhagen on Koge Bay, on the eastern coast of Zealand. The Bay of Koge links Denmark to Malmo via the Oresund Bridge.

Koge town was perhaps founded as a result of the profitable catches of herring fish and associated fishing trade. Koge received great prominence in 1288. The fishing trade was primarily with towns in North Germany but later on it was expanded to the Dutch countries. Gradually, Koge became the home for goldsmiths, woodcarvers and the shoemakers. The town suffered greatly during the 17 th century wars. Later on in the 19 th century the town was completely renovated and restored to its original glory.

The most popular attractions of Koge are Koge Municipal Museum and Kunstmuseet Koge Skitsesambling. Other attractions include Vallo Castle, Stevns Klint, Store Heddinge, Torvet, Oluf Jensens Gard, Svenstrup Manor and St. Nicholas Church. One can enjoy mouth-watering delicacies at Tino's Pizza, Café Uno, Samos, Malerklemmen and Restaurant Ankara. Koge is also the largest shopping site of East Zealand. It has one of the best preserved markets from the Middle Ages. Koge also has many art galleries located in the town.
