Faroe Islands is situated in the center of the Gulf Stream in the North Atlantic Ocean and located to the northwest of Scotland. Faroe Islands consists of 18 islands in all. The shape of Faroe Islands is like an arrowhead and the average height of the country from the sea level is 300 meters.

The history of the Faroe Islands dates back to the Irish monks who were the first settlers during the 17th century. After the Irish monks Faroe Islands was taken over by the Viking settlers who set up their own parliament in the place. The language of Faroe Islands is Faroese and the Faroese dance is quite famous for its special attributes like no instrumental help and the focus is mainly on the story and the song.

The dancers follow the song and keep on repeating the song after every step. The houses and the architecture found in Faroe Islands dates back to the Viking age and the grass roofs are quite a common feature.

The tourists who visit Faroe Islands can entertain themselves with the sea adventures like the visit to Torshvan on the recently found sailing ship called Dragin which sets out from Klaksvik.

The most important festival of Faroe Islands is the holy Olav festival when the entire island population meets at Torshvan. The Faroese flag is taken by men on horseback with a colorful procession in front of them. The boat race which takes place is an important event of the festival.
