Nuevitas is described as the "port city" of Cuba. It is one of the important Cuban tourist destinations, which is located in the Camaguey Province of Cuba and was discovered in 1775. However, it should be noted that Nuevitas was shifted to the sight where it is now situated in the year 1828.

In spite of being a small city in Cuba, Nuevitas is very significant for the economy of Cuba. This is because this Cuban town is the base of all important commercial and industrial activities of Cuba. It is also the most important "shipping point" of Cuba. It is surrounded by an enormous harbor and is also benefited by two supplementary ports. There are also a number of important light industries in this important Caribbean city that also accounts for the importance of Nuevitas . It also functions as major terminus for land transportation.

The Canal of Nuevitas is also equally significant because, on one hand it separates Santa Lucia from Ensenada Playa Bonita while on the other hand it connects Bahia de Nuevitas with the Atlantic Ocean. It is also geographically proximate to one of the most hot tourist destination of Cuba, Playa Santa Lucia. This is accounts for the large number of tourists that visit this city all round the year. Club Santa Lucia and Hotel club Caracol are the two important hotels of Nuevitas.
