Cienfuegos is a beautiful city situated to the southern part of the main island of Cuba. This city was originally named Fernandina de Jagua and its founders were from Bordeux and Louisiana. As the name suggests, it was a French establishment in the Spanish colony, a prominent center for production of sugarcane, tobacco and coffee. Cienfuegoes graduated from a village to a town and then to the city that it is today. When Ciefuegos was given the recognition of town, its name changes to what it is today. Cienfuegos was actually the last name of its the then governor general. It is because of the picturesque beauty and aesthetic taste with which it is built, that Cienfuegos is popularly known as "The Pearl Of the South". Ciefuegos City is the capital of the province of Cienfuego province of Cuba.
