Artemisa was founded in1818 and named after the Greek God of fertility, Artemis . It is among the most beautiful destinations in Cuba , on the route running between the cities of Havana and Pinar del Rio. With a population of 160,000, Artemisa is also the largest city in the city of Havana. Artemisa is architecturally rich and the various artifacts are a fine Cuban mix of well-preserved neoclassical style, pastel painted buildings featuring ornate columns in the Doric and Ionic styles.

Artemisa has an exuberant display of Urban and Cuban countryside . It has managed to preserve its cultural and traditional heritage and is home to one of the province's most active Cases de la Cultura, which is a state sponsored organization for the promotion of plays, music and other cultural activities.

There are numerous museums dedicated to the 24 Moncada attackers who hailed from Artemisa . Some of them are:

  • Ruinas del antiguo.

Apart from visiting the museums, one can also go to the beaches in Havana and enjoy the sea air. Water sports like scuba diving, sea beach volleyball, fishing, sea surfing and boating are among the favorite pass times among the tourists. Among the best beach hangouts are Jibacoa, Tropico and Puerto Escondido.
