Zimbabwe's Tsvangirai keen to delay polls for reforms

  • Zimbabwe's Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai is looking to delay the upcoming national polls, saying there is not enough time to meet the July 31 deadline.

Key reforms to ensure free and fair elections still needed to be put into practice, he said on Wednesday after a meeting in the capital, Harare, with leaders of other parties that have severed ties with his Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) and President Robert Mugabe's Zanu-PF party.

Last week, Mugabe said he would adhere to the deadline set by the Constitutional Court.

Tsvangirai and Mugabe have been in a volatile power-sharing deal in a bid to resolve the dispute over the result of Zimbabwe's last elections in 2008.
