Zimbabwe: Police Personnel Clear Streets a Day Before Anti-Government Protest
July 31 , 2020
A day before the planned anti-corruption protests, Zimbabwe's securing personnel clears people off the street and forces shops to close. Authorities have also warned the citizens not to take part in the demonstrations. Government officials have accused Western governments of orchestrating the protests and also accused them being funded by Western diplomats. Though, both the opposition leaders and diplomats denied the charges. Further, soldiers have also been deployed at police roadblocks, which were set up to enforce the four-month-old Covid-19 lockdown. At the beginning of July, Zimbabwe's Health Minister Obadiah Moyo was also sacked amid corruption allegations.
