Zimbabwe HC says Military's Takeover of Mugabe's Government was Legal
November 25 , 2017
Zimbabwe High Court has given legal backing to the military takeover of the Zimbabwean government and ousting of Robert Mugabe. The HC ruling says that Zimbabwe Defence Forces' action of stopping close aides of ex-President Mugabe is constitutional. The ruling also took dig at Mugabe’s wife Grace (who was positioning herself as the successor of Robert Mugabe) and her supporters by saying the military takeover ensured that the "non-elected individuals" don’t get the chance to exercise powers, which are meant for the elected. High Court Judge George Chiweshe also observed separately that newly elected President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ousting by Mugabe from Vice President’s position was illegal.
