Zimbabwe Account Had $217

  • The Zimbabwean Finance Minister, Tendai Biti, was quoted on Wednesday saying that the African nation's coffers had only $217 left in its public account last week. This figure was arrived at after paying civil servants and government employees. Mr Biti is believed to have said that the following day, however, $30 million of revenue had flowed in. On Tuesday Mr Biti made an appeal to donors in the hope of raising $200 million for a constitutional referendum.
