Zika virus: WHO rejects call to shift or postpone Olympics

WHO has rejected the call to move or postpone the Rio Olympic Games over the Zika virus outbreak. WHO said that holding the Olympics will not significantly alter the spread of the virus. Zika virus is linked with serious birth defect. Though scientists world over have expressed their apprehension and also termed the continuation of the event as ‘unethical’, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) says that it sees no reason for delay or postponement of the games. Zika virus outbreak began in Brazil an year ago and has spread to more than 60 countries.
