Yemen suicide bomber kills 20
August 5 , 2012
A suspected suicide bomber has attacked a village in the southern Yemeni province of Abyan, leaving some 20 people dead.
A further 20 were wounded in the blast during a funeral service in the city of Jaar.
The funeral was for a man linked to militias that had assisted the army in their fight against al-Qaeda.
Earlier this year, the Yemeni army launched a major operation against Islamist militants in the province, taking control of the area with the help of civilian militias made up of local tribesmen.
