Yemen conflict: Houthi rebels, allies indicate 'readiness' to accept truce
May 11 , 2015
Hopes of a ceasefire in Yemen have brightened after renegade soldiers who had backed Shia Houthi rebels announced their “readiness to deal positively” with measures to end the fighting.
The soldiers have, however, made no specific references to a five-day humanitarian ceasefire offered by Saudi Arabia, which has led a bombing campaign against the rebels for over six weeks.
Meanwhile, the Saudi-led coalition has continued to target Saada, the northern stronghold of the rebels, amid UN warnings that thousands of civilians are trapped in the area.
