WTO Rules in Favor of the USA in Tuna Trade Battle against Mexico
October 28 , 2017
World Trade Organization (WTO), in a proceeding this week, reportedly said that US labeling now complies with their standards after a U.S. Commerce Department’s unit tweaked laws of tuna-labeling last year. In April, WTO had said that Mexico has the right of imposing tariffs on US exports amounting to $163 million. The trade organization said that "dolphin-safe" requirement of the US labeling unfairly discriminated against Mexico, which resulted in the latter’s loss of $163 million. After the recent ruling by WTO, Trump administration is believed to have won a longstanding trade battle against Mexico.
