World's Longest Sea Crossing Bridge Opens

Xi Jinping, China's president, has finally opened the sea crossing bridge. This is the longest crossing bridge of the world and has been under construction for 9 years. The bridge, which connects Hong Kong to Zhuhai (mainland Chinese city) and Macau, spans a total of 34 miles, including its access roads. $20bn is the net cost of the bridge. A total of 400,000 tonnes of steel are used in the construction of the bridge and has been designed to withstand typhoons and earthquakes. Xi, along with leaders of Macau and Hong Kong, attended the opening ceremony at Zhuhai. The bridge will be opened on Wednesday to regular traffic.
