November 25 , 2014
Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said that women are not equal to men and the country’s feminists rejected the special status of motherhood, comments that have led to a furious backlash.
He said men and women could not do similar work and women’s “delicate nature” made them unsuitable for manual work, according to media reports.
Erdoğan was speaking at an event on justice for women.
Twitter erupted in controversy after his remarks. A female TV news journalist in Turkey slammed the president’s comments, in the middle of her bulletin.
