Wife of China's Bo Xilai charged with murder

  • The wife of disgraced Chinese political leader Bo Xilai has been charged with the murder of British businessman Neil Heywood.

According to state news agency Xinhua, Gu Kailai and Zhang Xiaojun, who was employed at Bo's home, were "recently" prosecuted by a Chinese court.

Heywood was found dead in a hotel in Chongqing on November 15, 2011.

His murder triggered Bo's downfall in a scandal that has dominated headlines in China.

Local officials initially said Heywood died of excessive drinking, but in April announced it was investigating Bo's wife in connection with the case.

The two accused have been charged with homicide by the Hefei Municipal Procuratorate (state prosecutor's office) in the eastern province of Anhui.
