WHO's Initial Reports point that New, Mysterious Inflammatory Disease in Children may be associated with COVID-19
May 16 , 2020
The World Health Organization (WHO) has raised the alert on the mysterious inflammatory disease in children, which is likely to be related to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. Its initial reports have hypothesized that this new syndrome (causing high fever and swelling in blood vessels) may have a relation with novel coronavirus. Head of WHO’s emerging diseases and zoonosis unit, Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove, has said that they still need “more information collected in a systematic way” to reach a conclusion about the correlation between the two. Kerkhove also said that some children having this mysterious syndrome had been tested COVID-19 positive and “other children have not.” WHO’s Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has urged all clinicians worldwide to work with their respective national authorities and WHO for better understanding this new and mysterious syndrome in children.
