WHO says Europe is currently the Epicenter of COVID-19 Coronavirus Pandemic

  • The World Health Organization (WHO) has said that Europe has currently become the epicenter of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. With a steep rise in death toll along with the total number of infected persons in Europe in the last one day, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has urged all the countries to take all measures to save lives. He said: “Do not just let this fire burn.” Reports say that the total number of deaths in Italy in the last 24-hours is 250, taking the total number of deaths to 1,266. The total overall infections in the country have reached 17,660. The second worst affected European country from COVID-19 coronavirus is Spain, where the infection cases have increased to 4,231 with a 50% rise in deaths to 120. WHO said that the coronavirus pandemic has spread to 123 countries across the world. While the total number of confirmed infection cases across the world has reached more than 132,500, the death toll has reached about 5,000. The US President Donald Trump has declared COVID-19 coronavirus an emergency and assured to “unleash the full power of the federal government”, opening the door of unleashing around US$50 billion in federal aid. China’s National Health Commission has said that the new confirmed infection cases in Mainland China on Friday was 11 (4 in Hubei, 4 in the financial hub of Shanghai), 2 in the northwestern province of Gansu, and 1 in the Chinese capital Beijing. While the 4 infections in Hubei were locally transmitted, the other 7 were all detected in travelers who came into China from overseas countries such as Italy, the US, and Saudi Arabia.
