September 1 , 2019
A gunman in West Texas (between Midland and Odessa cities) reportedly killed at least 5 people as he unleashed terror by firing randomly from his vehicle. Odessa Police Chief Michael Gerke told media that at least 21 people (including 3 law enforcement officers) have been injured in the mass shooting incident. He also said that the mass shooter (without revealing the name or motive of the shooter) was a white male in his mid-30s who also hijacked a mail truck and targeted people at the shopping centers in West Texas. Hospital administrators said that at least 7 people are currently in critical conditions and one child of under-2-years of age is also injured. Reports say the shootout started at around 3:13 p.m. CT (8:13 pm GMT) when two Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers tried to stop a vehicle on Interstate 20 westbound. The only occupant of the vehicle started to shoot at the police from his rifle and started driving west into Odessa by open firing, leading to multiple deaths. This incident took place just 4 weeks after the El Paso shootout (that killed 22 people) in Texas.
