Volcano in Indonesia kills two
February 15 , 2014
A volcanic eruption in Indonesia resulted in a blasting of ash and debris about 12 miles into the sky and caused the death of two people. Authorities evacuated over 100k and closed six airports.
The overnight eruption of Mount Kelud could be heard 125 miles from the site and a local former said it sounded like the explosion of a thousand bombs. "I thought doomsday was upon us," he said. "Women and children were screaming and crying."
Scientists don't expect another big eruption but the disaster agency mentioned that tremors continue to wrack. Kelud's eruption in 1919 killed over 5,000 people.
