Volcano erupts in Indonesia, 10,000 flee homes

More than 10,000 villages in western Indonesia fled to safer places when a volcano erupted during the weekend. Detecting a sharp increase in activity in the beginning of June, Indonesian authorities had raised the alert Mount Sinabung, located on Sumatra Island, to the highest level, media reports stated. Sinabung, which had erupted last year killing 16 people, continued to throw out hot ash and smoke. According to officials around 7,500 people have been evacuated from the villages.
