Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro Survives Assassination Attempt

  • Reports say President of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro survived an assassination attempt (with explosive-laden drone-like devices) while delivering a speech to military troops on Saturday afternoon in Venezuelan capital, Caracas. Information Minister Jorge Rodriguez said that 7 National Guard soldiers were injured due to the attack. A group named “National Movement of Soldiers in T-shirts” has claimed responsibility for the attack and went on to claim that snipers had shot down the two drones. President Maduro said initial investigation suggested that the plot to kill him has links to right-wing politics of Colombia and the US state of Florida, where most of the Venezuelan-exiles live. He went on to name Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos being behind the assassination attempt.
