Venezuelan Military Seizes Abandoned Colombian Combat Boats and Weapons
May 10 , 2020
The military of Venezuela has said that it has seized 3 abandoned Colombian light combat vessels on Saturday while the Venezuelan soldiers were patrolling the Orinoco River. The statement comes days after the Venezuelan government accused its neighbor, Colombia, of aiding a failed invasion. The military went on to say that these abandoned boats had no crews but were laden with machine guns and ammunition. They added that the discovery was made as the military has started a nationwide operation of guaranteeing Venezuela’s “freedom and sovereignty.” Colombia’s Navy said in a statement that their preliminary investigation shows that the strong river currents dragged the boats away. It also said that they are talking with their Venezuelan counterparts for recovering the boats. President of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro said in a televised comment that his government will return the boats if the Colombian government requests for them officially.
