Venezuelan Indigenous Warao People Flee to Brazil

  • As per reports, around 400 Warao people fled to Brazilian city of Manaus in the Amazon from the Orinoco Delta in Venezuela.

    A social emergency has been declared by the authorities to seek government funds in order to deal with the situation and people.

    Some Warao people have also reportedly arrived at the northern Brazilian state of Roraima.

    Over 500 Warao arrived in Boa Vista but were deported for concerns over vagrancy and begging.

    In Manaus, they are begging at traffic lights and living in terrible conditions under an overpass near the bus station.

    Brazilian Ministry of Justice mentioned that over 5,400 Venezuelans have requested for visas and permission to be a part of the country.
