May 14 , 2016
Nicolas Maduro,President of Venezuela, has declared a 60-day state of emergency. As per reports, the reason cited by the President is plotting by the anti-government elements within the country and the U.S to topple his leftist government. Though the details of the measures of emergency have not been disclosed, the previous state of emergency which was implemented in states near the Colombian border last year had led to suspension of constitutional guarantees in those areas, except the guarantees given under Human Rights. The opposition party is seeking to recall him amid a terrible food crisis including medicine shortages, frequent power cuts, sporadic looting and ever increasing inflation.
