Vatican decides to give More Power to Women in Church

  • A major meeting of Catholic bishops at the Vatican decided to provide more power to the women as a “duty of justice”. In the Vatican bureaucracy, till now just 6 women hold decision-making roles. Out of the total 60 departments in the Vatican, none is headed by a woman. The 60-page final document (published after the major meeting at the synod) acknowledged the fact that the Church lagged in providing women “space in decision-making processes” in jobs that were not restricted to priests only. The Church renewed “commitment against all sexually-based discrimination and violence”. Though LGBT acronym appeared in the synod-issued working paper in May 2018, it didn’t appear in the final paper after strong objection from the conservative bishops.
