Vancouver bans doorknobs
November 21 , 2013
Vancouver is getting rid of something that people wouldn't guess is problematic: doorknobs.
Since levers are easier to be used by disabled elderly people than doorknobs are, the city has already begun to take action in public buildings. Moreover, all new housing in Vancouver will have levers instead of doorknobs starting in March.
The change is based on the concept of "universal design," according to which spaces should be made convenient for as many people as possible.
However, this might not be an end of doorknobs in Vancouver since it's up to homeowners to replace levers with knobs.
