US urges all parties to avoid clashes as Iraqi government forces seize Kirkuk

The United States has urged calm after Kirkuk and key installations under Kurdish control were seized by the government of Iraq. As per media reports, Heather Nauert, State Department Spokeswoman, called on all parties in Iraq to avoid further clashes. The Iraqi soldiers, who are aiming to retake areas that are under Kurdish control, moved into the northern city of Kirkuk, three weeks after the controversial independence referendum was held in the Kurdistan Region.
