US to Seek Extradition of Former Guatemalan VP and Associate Indicted by US Court

  • Former Guatemalan Vice President Roxana Baldetti and her close associate Mauricio Lopez (former Interior Minister) were indicted by the US court on drug trafficking charges. U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia charged the duo for conspiring in distribution of 5 or more kilograms of cocaine. US Embassy in Guatemala said the United States will request the high profile duo’s extradition. Baldetti is currently serving a jail term since 2015 in Guatemala on charges of leading a network, which defrauded government of Central American country.
