US to Impose Sanctions on Russia over Novichok Use

  • The US, after determining that Russia used a nerve agent against a UK-based former Russian double agent, has announced that it would impose new sanctions. Sergei Skripal and Yulia, his daughter, got seriously ill after they were poisoned with Novichok in March. However, they have recovered now. An investigation in the UK has accused Russia of the attack but the latter has denied its involvement. Heather Nauert, a spokeswoman, has stated that “ (the country) has used chemical or biological weapons in violation of international law, or has used lethal chemical or biological weapons against its own nationals.”

Speaking on sanctions, Russia has condemned the new sanctions, calling them "draconian".
