US Suspends Import of Brazilian Meat
June 23 , 2017
On concerns of Brazilian meats not maintaining adequate safety standard, the United States of America has suspended meat imports from Brazil. In March 2017, several countries imposed ban on Brazilian meat after prosecutors said that sub-standard meats were approved by the health inspectors by taking bribes. Though the US had not imposed ban at that time, Brazil's meat shipments were put under check. US Department of Agriculture has said that the meat ban decision was taken after 11 per cent of Brazilian meat shipments failed standard maintained by FSIS (Food Safety and Inspection Service) in last 3 months.
