US sends additional military advisers to Kurdish region

America has sent an additional 130 military advisers to the Kurd-controlled areas of north Iraq, Chuck Hagel, the US defense secretary, has said.
The United States is carrying out a two-pronged mission in Iraq — air strikes to stop Isis and other Sunni militant groups from advancing to Kurdish areas, and providing humanitarian assistance to thousands of Iraqis, who have fled areas under the control of extremists.
The US has so far been careful to emphasize that American troops on the ground are not on the cards. “This is not a combat boots on the ground kind of operation,” Hagel said.
